Privacy Policy

Wika PH ("Wika," "we," "us," "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect through the Wika PH mobile application ("App"), how we use it, and your rights regarding it. This Policy applies to everyone who uses the App, including those who took part in the TestFlight beta. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy.

Dialecto, the App's AI assistant — what it sends, to whom, and how to turn it off — is covered by Section 5A of this Policy. Read Section 5A.

01Information We Collect

1.1 Information you provide directly

  • Account information: name, email address, and password (or authentication credentials if you sign in via a third-party provider such as Google or Apple).
  • Profile information: display name, avatar, learning preferences (e.g., which regional language(s) you're learning).
  • Communications: messages you send us for support, feedback, or bug reports.

1.2 Information collected automatically

  • Usage data: lessons completed, streaks, exercise answers and accuracy, time spent in the app, feature interactions.
  • Voice/audio data: when you use the microphone in Dialecto (our in-app language assistant) or in a speaking exercise, the recording is uploaded to our servers and transcribed. See Section 5 (Voice Data) below.
  • Dialecto conversations: the text of the messages you send to Dialecto, and the replies generated for you. See Section 5A (AI Features) below.
  • Device and technical data: device type, operating system, app version, unique device identifiers, IP address, crash logs, and general diagnostic/performance data.
  • In-app economy data: virtual currency balances, hearts, streaks, and other gamification metrics tied to your account.
  • Purchase data: if you buy a subscription, our payments partner records the purchase and its status. We never receive or store your card details; Apple or Google processes the payment.

1.3 Information from third parties

  • If you sign in using a third-party authentication provider, we receive basic profile information (e.g., name, email) as permitted by that provider's settings and your consent.

02How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account, and authenticate your access to the App;
  • Provide, operate, and personalize the App's core features (lessons, progress tracking, pronunciation feedback);
  • Process and improve AI-generated feedback (e.g., pronunciation scoring, conversational responses);
  • Monitor, maintain, and improve App performance and fix bugs;
  • Communicate with you about your account, updates, or support requests;
  • Analyze aggregate usage trends to improve the learning experience;
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms and Conditions.

04How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We may share information with:

  • Service providers who help us operate the App. We name them so you know exactly who receives what:
ProviderWhat it receivesWhy
SupabaseAccount record, profile, learning progress, economy data, Dialecto conversation history, bug reportsDatabase, authentication, and file storage
Google (Gemini API)The text of the messages you send to Dialecto, plus the retrieved language material needed to answer themGenerating Dialecto's replies. Requests are sent from our servers, not directly from your device
CartesiaThe text of Dialecto's replySynthesising the spoken version of that reply
Microsoft Azure (Edge TTS)Individual words and phrases from our lesson contentPre-generated pronunciation audio. No personal data is sent
Groq (Whisper API)Audio you record with the microphoneTranscribing what you said so Dialecto can answer. Audio is sent from our servers, not directly from your device
RevenueCatAn anonymised user identifier and your purchase/subscription statusManaging subscriptions and restoring purchases
Apple / GoogleSign-in credentials and, for purchases, payment processingAuthentication and billing

These providers are contractually required to protect your data and to use it only to provide services to us. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it to train third-party AI models.

  • Legal and safety purposesif required by law, subpoena, or government request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Wika, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfersif Wika is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy's protections continuing to apply.

We do not share your individual usage data, voice recordings, or account information with other users or the public.

05Voice Data

The App records audio only while you are actively using the microphone in Dialecto or in a speaking exercise. It does not listen in the background.

5.1

Voice recordings are used to transcribe what you said and to generate feedback on your pronunciation. They are not used to train Wika's own models.

5.2

Voice recordings are uploaded to our servers and sent from there to Groq, which transcribes them using the Whisper model. The recording is never sent to Groq directly from your device, and Groq receives no other information about you. We do not use your voice recordings for purposes unrelated to providing the App's core learning features without your separate, explicit consent.

5.3

Voice upload is a separate switch in Settings › Privacy & AI: with it off, the microphone path is disabled and Dialecto keeps working, text-only. You may also decline voice-based exercises where an alternative exercise format is offered in the App.

5AAI Features (Dialecto)

5A.1

Dialecto is an AI assistant inside the App. Its replies are generated by an AI model (Google Gemini) and can be wrong. They are not authoritative linguistic, cultural, medical, legal, or professional advice.

5A.2

Consent. Before your first Dialecto message, the App shows a disclosure naming the providers that receive your data on the Dialecto path — Google (Gemini), which generates the reply, and Cartesia, which receives the reply text to speak it — and asks you to opt in explicitly. Until you accept, nothing leaves your device on the Dialecto path. Your answer is one of three states:

  • Never askedthe default. The consent sheet appears the first time you open Dialecto.
  • GrantedDialecto works.
  • DeclinedDialecto stays off, and you are not asked again.

If you decline, Dialecto is unavailable and every other part of the App continues to work normally.

5A.3

Revoking consent. You can turn Dialecto off at any time in Settings > Privacy & AI. Turning it off stops any further data being sent to those providers.

5A.4

What is sent. The text of your message goes to Google to generate the reply. Cartesia never receives what you wrote or said: it receives the reply Dialecto produced, and speaks it. If you never tap the microphone, no audio is ever sent — typing to Dialecto sends text only; when you do use the microphone, your recording goes from our servers to Groq to be transcribed first, and the separate Voice upload switch in Section 5.3 turns that path off on its own. Your name, email address, and learning history are not sent to the AI providers.

Google, Cartesia, and Groq are companies outside the Philippines. Sending your message to Dialecto means it is processed abroad. See Section 10.

5A.5

Reporting. If Dialecto returns something inappropriate or incorrect, you can report it from within the conversation. Reports are reviewed by our team.

06Data Storage and Security

6.1

Your data is stored using industry-standard cloud infrastructure (including Supabase-hosted databases) with access controls, encryption in transit, and row-level security policies restricting data access to authorized systems and personnel only.

6.2

While we take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6.3

Access to user data internally is limited to personnel who need it to operate, support, or improve the App.

07Data Retention

7.1

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the App's services.

7.2

You can delete your account from inside the App at Settings › Privacy & AI › Delete account, or from the Account card on your Profile. Deletion is immediate and permanent: it removes your authentication record and the associated profile, wallet, progress, dictionary, Dialecto conversation, and bug report rows, and clears locally cached data on the device. There is no grace period and no recovery. We will delete or anonymize any remaining personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required for legal, security, or legitimate business purposes (e.g., fraud prevention, dispute resolution). Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription bought through Apple or Google — manage that in your App Store or Play Store account.

7.3

TestFlight beta. During the TestFlight beta, learning progress, economy data (hearts, currency, streaks), and other in-app data could be reset or wiped as part of ongoing development. The beta has ended: under Terms of Service §16.4 that provision does not apply to any account now.

08Your Rights

Under the Data Privacy Act of 2012, you have the right to:

  • Be informed that your personal data will be, is being, or has been processed;
  • Access your personal data held by us;
  • Correct inaccurate or outdated personal data;
  • Object to processing of your data in certain circumstances;

09Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction, if higher), and you must be at least 13 years old to use it. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If we learn that we hold personal data of a child under 13, we delete it. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

10International Data Transfers

If any of our service providers process or store data outside the Philippines, we take steps to ensure such transfers are subject to appropriate safeguards consistent with the Data Privacy Act of 2012.

11Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, particularly as the App and the services it relies on change. We will notify you of material changes through the App or via email. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
